Outhouses and Wells

First, let me tell you what an outhouse is for those of you that don't know what one is. In the past years, some people did not have an indoor bath-room. So there was a hole dug in the back yard away from the main house. Then a building was built over the opening. This looked like a little house. When you opened the door there was a plank with a hole in it that you sat on and proceeded to do your business.

This wasn't a fun place to be in cold weather or rainy weather. My wise grandmother had a pot with a top on it for us to use at night. Then in the morning one of us would have to go to the outhouse and empty it.

I'm so thankful that my children didn't have to use them, but sometime when I ride around, I sometime find an old home that had an outhouse in the backyard. I take pictures of them just to be able to remember where I did come from.

The next great thing that gets my attention are wells. Before people had running water in the house, the water came from springs and wells. There was a bucked attached to a pulley and you would lower the bucket until you would hear a big splash. This was our drinking water, bath, cooking and clothes washing water.

My grandmother would try and have enough water on hand for all this, at all times. The children had a big wash tub to take baths in . We all thought it was great. My grandmother never rushed us, but we were clean when we got out.

When there was a rain storm the water would be a little muddy. We always had good drinking water because grandma was always thinking ahead. What a wonderful woman.

Things changed, later in years, there was running water install and an indoor bath room. Grandma was still concerned about using too much water. So we watched and made sure she did not worry about the well going dry.

Oh, my how each of our lives have been touched by the wings of this angel. We are so blessed.

Thanks for making me be aware of the things around me and conserve what god has given us.

Laddie moving

Laddie, the man my mother lived with for 42 years has decided to move on with his life. This is a major move he is moving to az. He said good-bye to both my brothers and then all his friends in Va. His last stop on the east coast was to my house in GA.

The trip down to GA. Must have been sad. He has worked and lived in VA for about 45 years.

Mother died in 2006 and it has been ruff on all of us. I moved to GA. 2009, leaving my aunts, uncles and brothers. My girls decided they wanted a new place. I think that's what Laddie is doing. He has a brother in az. That has requested he cone and live with him and his daughter.

I think Laddie is looking forward to a fresh start. We love him and always will, he is a part of our family.

He decided he wanted a readymade family with a mother and three children 42 years ago. That's an undertaking in itself. He was good to our family and our entire family grew to love him and respect him. When mother was sick he wanted her at home not in a nursing home. He never went anywhere unless he could be back in 10 minutes. He even had door bells installed so if mother needed him all she had to do was ring the bell. He carried it in his shop, cutting grass and just sitting on the front porch watching the traffic.

This being his final stop before his big trip was great. He got to spend time with Dominic. He loves to play with Dominic, and since his birth there was a connection . Don't get me wrong he loves all the children in our family, but this is the first great-grandchild boy in our immediate family and of course he is spoiled.

Well, Laddie this is not goodbye, but a small farewell. You will never be forgotten and always loved by all.

I wish you the best. You deserve it. You have taken care of so many, now you will be the one to have care given to you.

My brothers, uncles, aunts, and your friends wish you nothing but love and good health.

Don't get to busy not to see god

There are so many ways I could start this story, but there are so many blessing we have that god has given me.

My children went to church, and after the service we were riding home I noticed different people hustling and bustling shopping for Christmas. They had worked all week and instead of going to church for maybe two hours, to give thanks for all the blessing they had received during the past week they found other things to do. We have so much to be thankful for. Just the 86,400 seconds in a 24 hour day is a blessing.

God has a purpose for all of us, but if we are too busy to thank him for our blessings, then we don't make time for god. We all are blessed every day. Some people just complain about how hard they have it, but they don't take time to just say "thank you god, for the blessings you have given me".
God is such a good heavenly father that he only wants the best for all his children. He gives us opportunities everyday to act on, and we make the decision which way it will take us. God gave us 10 commandments that he ask us to keep. When we are honoring him by keeping his commandments he gives us blessing beyond our dreams.

People are on the go all the time. They just need to stop and give thanks. We remember him when we need him. Example someone in hospital, danger to our lives, when its convenient to us to call upon him.

I believe that god should be honored every day, maybe more than one time, for all the good he does for us. We should keep his commandments always, it not like its 1000, its only 10. My mother had more rules for us children when we were young. We tried to do the right things to learn by her rules, now god deserves this respect every day.

I love my heavenly father, and I am blessed woman, with every aspect of my life.
Please don't forget to honor god and don't get to busy to see all of the blessing you have been given around you.

The Moment

A Moment could be whenever
The Moment you fly
The Moment you shine
The Moment you give

But today is another Moment
because you're going to shine
Today or right now is the Moment you believe
But watch..The Moment could be any day

By: Courtney Brown

Today

Today is going to be yours
give everything you've got
Because God is the one watching
Today you will shine bright

Don't let nothing stop you today
the spotlights on you
Just be the Butterfly spread your wings
Everyone believes in you so go ahead

A blessed woman

"did you see that?' I heard my grandmother ask my grandfather while sitting on the porch one clear evening before all had to get ready for bed. "it was a falling star." "I think you are suppose to make a wish." then all of a sudden my grandfather said "what would you wish for?" this was sort of out of context for my grandfather. He was gentle and kind, but a little ruff also. My grandmother replied, " I don't know that I would wish for, I'm already a blessed woman." " I have 9 healthy children, grandchildren, friends, and all I need." grandma had a gentle spirit about her that stars would fall from heaven just to be near her.
Our family is blessed hundreds of times over because she was in our family. I have never met a woman that influenced so many lives. Everyone knew about how gentle, soft spoken and caring she was. Our family members all have these qualities in us that we got from her.

It's amazing how one woman can overcome the life she must have had. The mother of nine and they were always clean, fed and polite because of her. All of her children went on to make her proud of each one.

I remember saying to her one day( I want to be just like you when I grow up) and she replied "be patient, I love you dale."

Those words stay with me always. I try to be patient all the time, I think about others needs, and I always find time for quite time . I know she like to sit on the front porch an look at sunsets, and later look at stars. I try never to forget where I came from and always remember my heavenly father is watching over me. I know my grandmother is there with him and I want to make them proud of me . "I love you grandma."
Love dale

P.s. You are truly a blessed woman in the eyes of your entire family.

Beloved uncles

Everyone has a favorite person in their life. I am very lucky to have a lot. I don't have a favorite person, but I have several persons that have made my heart complete.

Jerry bane, is 1 year younger than I am my grandmother raised us together. We are connected like brother and sister. He even cut my tongue with a saw once , maybe to shut me up but that has never worked. Grandma said "it's a wonder you don't kill each other". We used to go explore the woods around the farm and stay out all day. Grandma never wondered if someone would get us or something would happen. We were just kids and that's what kids did then. Today we watch Courtney go to the mailbox. How times have changed.

Uncle al, was the oldest and he was gone from the house when I was little, but he has a love about him that shows each time he sees you. He always wants to know how you and your family is doing and all about the news. I think him being the only boy among 5 girls, granddaddy expected a great deal from him. He truly was a workaholic. He was the big brother and wore those shoes proudly.

Uncle earl, he is soft spoken but can be out spoken in things that he believes about. He is kind and giving all the time. He worries about others welfare and wants to help everyone out.

When I moved to VA from GA, I wanted my girls to know about a good family and what great uncles were, all about. He fulfilled those shoes without a doubt. When the girls were going to be transferred to Richmond city schools, he offered his house so the girls could continue in their same school. He has been there for them.
But he has been there for me , after mama died I had a hard time and still do. He would let me ride with him to the country to church every two weeks to see family and mama's grave. We would have nice talks on the way down there and on the way back.

While down in the country we would have lunch with jean, Mary Lillian, and then I would ride with him to the lake. That is a peaceful place, the water, the sky, and the quite time. Uncle earl is a strong man that offers this calm time to me.
I love all my uncles and I hope they know this. They each have quality the others don't, but then each have that sparkle the others don't. This makes them special men. God put these men in our lives to fulfill different jobs.
I know that these men have made me appreciate my uncles and use their wisdom to teach my children.

I love you jerry Bane, Al and uncle earl.

Ps there was an uncle Carl. He was only here for a short time, God had work for him to finish in heaven, but he did teach all of us that life is short and enjoy each moment. Uncle Carl did that and I want us all to value that lesson from him.
Life is short , enjoy each moment. That's what he would want us to remember about his life. 3/6/2010
